Valuable Lessons From Mentors and DEmentors

Today we are going to be talking about mentors and DEmentors.  Mentors are great but there is only so much they can do for us in our lives. They do point us in very good directions. They can teach us very valuable lessons and skills but many of us have an overly romanticized view of what a mentor is and the role that they provide in our lives. We want them to teach us, spend a lot of time guiding us, and validate us on the progress we are making. 

When we see somebody with a skill or ability to teach us, we think they are going to fill all of those gaps we felt growing up. Oftentimes a mentor won’t fill all of those things and on top of that, they are usually expensive. They are very valuable and worth it and I highly recommend it and do it all the time but it is expensive or they require you to work hard for them as an apprentice. Oftentimes we are so focused on seeking out mentors like this that we ignore a potential and abundant source of learning in our life that you can look toward and in many areas of our lives we can find anti-mentors or DEmentors.
