The Making of a Transcendental Dance Experience

Today I am going to tell you about a project that I have been working on the last couple of months and got to share at a high-end entrepreneurs retreat called The Song of Your Life Retreat, in which I interviewed David Munter. His episode should have debuted on the episode right before this one and we get to talk about that retreat. One of the things that was a big honor for me and that David really enjoyed at his event was the transcendental dance experience that I put together.
I want to share the story of the creation of this experience and what it has been like putting it together. This is something that I can’t share directly on this podcast but I do have a video on Venmo and a SoundCloud link so you can listen to or follow along with this experience at home.
We discuss:
- [02:24] A transcendental dance experience is a little bit of DJing music, breathwork, and it is a series of prompts and suggestions for how to experience and move with the music in a way that is much more than a DJ playing on a dance floor. It makes it a community and shared experience and it makes it much more transformative.
- [04:36] Over this last year, I have been exposed to something called ecstatic dance.
- [06:37] After the event, I felt this desire to get back into music.
- [08:24] I decided that I want to have a coach on the journey with me this time.
- [10:41] In this dance experience, I don’t open up with dancing. I open up with breathwork. This is a tool I have been using each day to get myself started and into a great frame of mind and body to create.
- [14:20] I knew I wanted to bring breathwork into what I was doing and was creating. As we start, I invite people to lay down on the ground or their yoga mats and start breathing in and out with the rhythm of the music.
- [14:47] I invite them to join me as we enter a dream together. In this dream, you are going to experience tons of different visions, emotions, and feelings and it is all okay. Just be you and make it whatever experience you want.
- [17:25] I include various clips about dreams from Martin Luther King Jr. to Snoop Dog.
- [18:48] Most of us in our lives could do a little more thanking ourselves, appreciating ourselves, and being proud of ourselves to the point where you are thanking yourself in front of a crowd of people.
- [19:13] Over the course of 60-90 minutes we go through breathing to waking up from this dream.
- [20:44] They enjoy imagining what the best day is going to be like and feel like.
- [20:47] Dancing, moving, and experiencing those feelings helps move the emotions and ideas into their body and consciousness.
- [21:01] It is a very fun and sneaky way to help people experience ideas that they don’t often give themselves room or permission to. Over the course of several different songs, this experience builds from a sexy breakfast to being invited to the galactic prom.
- [22:04] I am going to use this first experience to further supplement what I can offer at various events. It can be run virtually or live.
- [23:44] This episode is all about the behind-the-scenes creation and philosophy behind the transcendental dance experience.
