Today on the show we have Ryan Sprague. Ryan is a close friend of mine. I have gotten to know him over the last couple of years and he is also a two-time alumnus of my group program Story Pro. Over the last few years, Ryan has grown from a small coaching business to becoming one of the most innovative thinkers in the cannabis space right now and showing people how to use cannabis with a much high level of intention and sensitivity to be able to unlock much more power and potential from it then many people are aware is possible.
This episode is a great example of how to present an idea and really change peoples’ beliefs about what is possible even though they have beliefs that are really heavily set. This is a great episode and I am so proud to share Ryan’s transformation and growth during our time working together, collaborating together, and as friends.
We discuss:
- [03:03] Ryan shares his defining moment.
- [05:08] He went to cannabis school with help from his father.
- [06:55] He would sit with his dad when he was interacting with cannabis to make sure he was having a comfortable experience and he was able to connect with him in so many profound ways that he was never able to connect with him before.
- [07:21] Ryan realized that his life was really dedicated to allowing the true medicine of cannabis to come forth.
- [07:45] Life is short. Make the best of why you are here because you never know when your last breath will be.
- [10:26] Ultimately life is going to challenge us regardless but it is our choice of whether or not it challenges us for what we do want or what we do not want.
- [10:51] With great power comes great responsibility. You can form a dependency on cannabis and you should not be interacting with it daily.
- [11:20] With his clients, Ryan helps them reimagine cannabis as if it were the first time they have ever interacted with it in a totally new way that allows them to see this plant as a powerful tool for self-development and self-awareness so they can connect more to their lives.
- [12:29] No matter where you are at in your journey, you can learn something about where you’re at from your relationship with cannabis.
- [15:46] If someone is called to plant medicines, Ryan suggests that they have the right guidance and frameworks to practice these medicines with. If not, you can end up doing a lot more harm than good.
- [16:26] All these plant medicines are showing us, is what is already possible past the limitations that we have in our minds.
- [21:23] Through this process he has found the ability to be confident in what he is saying as a coach and that only comes from a place of vulnerability.
- [23:34] People don’t care how you do something, they just care what the result is and whether or not they can connect with you deep enough to give them that result.
- [26:52] One of the main things that separate an amateur from a pro is the reps. If you one to get really good at something, practice it over and over.
- [28:49] He uses the stories he has to connect with others on a deep level.
- [30:16] Everything is a story in life. We are making stories whether we know it or not. It is about figuring out what that story is and making it cohesive so that when you share the story people can connect with you.
- [32:00] We all go through similar challenges and similar feelings. We can look at what a person really values and figure out what story we have that we can connect with them on.
- [34:58] He realized he can’t and doesn’t want to do this alone.
- [36:21] If you want to move forward fast and enjoy the process and not get stressed out by it, you need to be able to ask for help when you need it.
- [37:02] The ability to ask for help is directly correlated to your ability to be a success.
- [37:50] Whatever your dreams are, you can access and fulfill them. It just takes really knowing where you want to go, being able to ask for help, and being able to believe in yourself. That belief comes from being able to put yourself into challenging situations and come out on the other side. Fail forward and take messy action.
- [38:17] Those who matter don’t mind, those who mind don’t matter.
