Today on the show we have Mike Malatesta. Mike is a high performance coach helping people unlock inspiration and creativity and has a podcast called How’d It Happen where he breaks down the magical turning points in many different entrepreneurs’ and creators’ lives. Mike is an excellent thought leader and has a lot of experience working with similar people to what I have done.
When I set out to have this interview. I wanted to talk to him about the many different things he uncovered in the How’d It Happen Podcast, and the things that he learned over the many different interviews. The actual interview took a very different turn and we both shared different perspectives on things like creating pattern breaks to open up new possibilities, connecting with the inner child and using that as a powerful source of energy in your business and your creativity, and many other topics that I feel are very high impact, especially for those whose who are really at the top of their game. This is a really fun-filled, unexpected, and magical episode that I am excited to share with you.
We discuss:
- [03:14] Mike shares his defining moment. His defining moment was when he was four years old and entrepreneurial and curiosity seeds were planted in him.
- [06:29] The entrepreneurial and curiosity seeds often get washed out after a period of time or become dormant.
- [08:35] The number one thing in his life right now is that everyone that he has an interaction with and he has an opportunity to impact he wants to do it in a way that is meaningful and valuable to them.
- [10:23] He loves having conversations that get to the root of how it happened and why it matters. His goal is to inspire people to push through any obstacle that is in the way of what they want to be true about themselves.
- [12:24] People are afraid to really think about and ask for what they actually want.
- [15:57] Breaking through isn’t that difficult. It is actually fun.
- [18:20] He has found there are often no big things. There were a lot of little things that aggregate over time and become a big thing almost without you realizing it happened.
- [20:14] The How’d It Happen stories are almost all relatable to anybody in any situation who will just keep taking the steps forward to what it is they think they want to accomplish.
- [21:07] To be able to take a step towards what you want every day requires you to know what you want to take a step towards every day.
- [23:17] What is inside of our reach if we would just give ourselves permission to have it?
- [23:39] If you just approach things with curiosity and nothing else then it seems like it is easier because the only way you can be disappointed is if you want something out of something.
- [25:26] It is not about trying to win the game. It is about staying in the game and making little efforts every day.
- [27:04] Just be curious and don’t have any expectations from someone and you will come off a lot better and people will remember you a lot more.
- [30:14] Conversations go into these different places but not for no reason. They go to those places for more exploration, sharing, and value.
