Today on the show I have Mike Koenigs. Mike is a long-time veteran in the entrepreneurship space, author of many books, and on a first-name basis with almost any heavy hitter well-known entrepreneur, or personality that you can think of.
Today on the show we are going to start with Mike’s story which really leads into a bigger philosophical discussion around leadership. Then we will transition into the art of the referral party which has been one of my favorite tools to develop new connections and build new relationships that I have been using in the last year that has absolutely transformed my business and Mike is the mastermind behind it all. It is a huge honor to have him on the podcast.
We discuss:
- [02:37] Mike shares his defining moment.
- [06:17] He didn’t know how many rules and how many judgments he had been carrying around that were not his. During that time he reexamined every single thing he thought was true.
- [11:11] When you find your voice you don’t have to steal someone else’s anymore.
- [12:24] The best discomfort you can ever experience is experiencing joy instead of pain to find out how wrong you are.
- [19:50] The thing preventing you from experiencing that which you desire and what you imagined is a story you have been telling yourself about who you aren’t just as much as who you want to be and who you are.
- [23:27] Great marketing is just great storytelling where we are triggering feelings, words, and meaningful things that we have shared amongst us.
- [28:34] Referral party is the mechanism, the fastest and most effective way to grow a business without requiring expensive funnels, paid advertising, etc.
- [29:42] You have people in your immediate network who have been waiting for you to approach them with a great story and a great offer, who if they don’t need it themselves, they know someone who does.
- [32:55] The best thing you can do is start building a network and find effective ways to connect people expecting nothing.
- [33:27] Be a person of service and actually listen and ask questions.
- [38:24] Video messages are significantly more intimate. If it is a video and it is short there is a high probability people will watch it.
- [41:44] It is harder to be a hero in your own home or own hometown.
- [45:01] If you want to really accelerate your superpowers right now, spending a little time with AI is going to make you even more effective at everything you do.
