Even if you aren’t the owner of a giant brand as big as Target there are a lot of timeless marketing nuggets in this episode as well as great stories and ideas from George.
We discuss:
- [01:55] George shares his defining moment of learning that he can bounce by and how he can bounce back.
- [03:47] Instead of doing what everyone else was doing he found what truly lit him up.
- [07:37] How do we give ourselves grace as an organization to figure things out versus everything being in those absolutes?
- [08:48] In the process of marketing you have to have courage. Anyone that puts themselves out there is marketing.
- [12:17] Anybody that is in product design would say the unexpected is guaranteed to occur.
- [14:17] There has to be an element of volume to any strategy.
- [15:36] Humans with time can be insanely creative. The things that break through feel like they are crafted and have a special creator's touch to them.
- [19:45] Doing nothing is incredibly healthy. You have to create space for yourself and be okay if you are not checking off your to-do list.
- [23:20] Creating healthy space as a leader to think about how all the dots connect and developing a vision is important. Company culture is important too.
- [25:36] There is something so important with taking the time to understand the future.
- [27:35] If you are not in the role you are meant to be in it has consequences for you and everyone around you.
- [28:34] There is a shift that happens when you go from being that grinding work to a visionary. When you have to do both at the same time, that is really hard for people.
- [31:19] The stories that we want to tell are out there but they are in the ether. Spending time with yourself, having solitude, thinking, and not trying to do anything is really how we pull it out of the ether and make it a reality.
- [31:34] Even if you only exercise that in small amounts to give yourself space to let your mind wander, you will see a tremendous impact on your day to day.
