On today’s episode, Alexandria Agresta is joining us. She is the master of getting on many different kinds of stages from podcasts to online summits to physical and hybrid stages and even the most famous and desirable of all stages, the TedX stages. This is really a tactical deep dive for getting on more stages.
Alexandria Agresta believes in creating a world where people fully align what they do to make money, with what they do to experience meaning and fulfillment in their lives. She calls it the “sweet spot” between purpose and profit. She’s an International Speaker, TEDx Speaker, and co-founder at Purpose Pioneers, where she’s on a mission to use the power of purpose to turn businesses into movements.
We discuss:
- [02:24] Alexandria shares her defining moment when she was six years old.
- [04:06] That story shaped who she is and how she sees the world.
- [07:16] Alexandria’s company is called Purpose Pioneers and they help people fully align what they do to make money with what they do to experience meaning and fulfillment in their lives. That is the sweet spot between purpose and profit.
- [07:49] When we are in that beautiful sweet spot work doesn’t feel like work, we are sharing our gifts in a way that can be received, and we are really connecting what lights us up with how we make money.
- [08:19] Your story and the power of words can be the thing that moves the needle forward.
- [10:33] The right stage differs for everyone. It isn’t a one size fits all.
- [10:57] Empathy is your greatest tool as a thought leader. As much as we speak, we need to listen twice as much. So long as we are in tune with the people we want to speak in front of, lead, serve, and love, we are always going to know what the right stages are for us.
- [12:01] The direct result of getting curious and asking these questions to your people is that you now start building a speaking gig database of stages that are perfect just for you.
- [13:29] You want your ideal audience to have your ideal clients in it.
- [15:44] No matter what is going on in the world even a global pandemic and global lockdown, nothing can stop human connection.
- [16:46] We are seeing hybrid events where the event is live with a small audience and also virtually streaming it. It honors where everyone is at in their journey.
- [19:12] It is best to navigate through these situations in the best way for us.
- [21:58] Approach podcasts like any other stage. It is so important to not just spray and pray.
- [22:52] If you can understand exactly what the podcast host wants, you can develop a pitch that is irresistible. Do the work to package up exactly what they need.
- [24:25] Speaking is not a numbers game. It is about quality over quantity. Speaking is about human connection.
- [25:18] The most compelling pitches are the ones that don’t feel templated, don’t feel copied and pasted, and you really feel that they took the time to understand and look at them. Show them directly how you are valuable to them.
- [28:18] We can turn a story from a roadblock into something that energizes and excites you and transforms your identity. These stories connect with the right clients and show your humanity.
- [29:34] Inspiration is sharing things that hold that space of possibility, make people feel good, and relate to you. The transformation side is saying the right things that speak to their pains, goals, vulnerabilities and saying you have been to the promised land.
- [30:58] The TedX stage has positioned itself in a way that wants to invite big ideas worth spreading on that stage. The TedX Talk is different from a keynote.
- [32:52] When a Ted Talk debuts, it opens a door to authority, credible, and exposure, that your current consciousness can’t even comprehend.
- [35:19] Things don’t take time, they take courage. Time is simply a witness that watches us do and not do. Courage is this catalyst and wrecking ball that comes in and helps you be who you want to be, do what you want to do, and do remarkable things in record breaking time.
