Today we are talking about 80-20 Ecommerce marketing, particularly email marketing and we are going to be chatting about that with an expert in the field, Adam Moody. Adam just recently released The 80-20 Ecommerce Marketing Playbook which is a small, very highly distilled book with the essentials for what you need to really grow and scale an Ecommerce business in 2022.
We are going to be breaking down a lot of the details of what it takes to run a great Ecommerce business so if you want to improve your emails, conversion rates, and SEO then this is going to be a highly tactical great episode for you and I recommend checking out the book as well.
We discuss:
- [02:26] Adam shares his defining moment when he was an engineer.
- [06:01] His book comes out of the engineering side of him and then goes into the nuts and bolts. He wasn’t finding a resource that he could point people toward so he created his own.
- [08:31] A lot of book writing goes back to your personal style. Find wants “good enough” to get out there and genuinely help people with what they need and start there.
- [10:03] Anyone that can take something and distill it down, there is a lot of value in that.
- [10:21] The better you understand your customer and what problems are important to them and what is going to move the needle for them, it really allows you to cut your writing down.
- [11:26] Sometimes silence is better than speaking.
- [12:58] Always keep in mind, what is the benefit to the reader? If we can’t answer that question quickly then we need to reevaluate what we are doing.
- [14:49] Email was predicted to fail but it is not. It is hanging around.
- [15:16] If you know your avatar and they aren’t using email or that isn’t where they go for information then don’t rely on it.
- [15:44] With email you get to communicate directly with people.
- [18:07] For anyone wanting to get started there’s just a plethora of information and a million different ways.
- [19:10] If you can write two emails a month to your list and they are good and well-received then do that. Consistency and quality are important.
- [20:02] You can audit no matter where you are at to see what is working and what is not. Then take a minute to do some planning.
- [21:16] It is important to take the time to plan things out because next is implementing.
- [23:28] Generally you can summarize and shorten things and still get a very good reception.
- [24:17] Always tests things. Then audit, plan, and implement again.
- [25:49] Revenue is the top metric to measure. The very first thing we are looking at is revenue.
- [28:40] We need to be reviewing the four or five metrics that really provide results on a monthly basis.
- [29:59] His book talks about what metrics you should be measuring, how to design emails, how to get started writing emails, and what the layout should be, and gives a really good overview with links and resources.
